I remember when we went to visit Granny in Illinois one year she asked me if I wanted to use a straw when I drank my sprite. I originally said, "no, but thank you", and my dad encouraged me anyway to take it because Granny wanted me to. I can still remember the serenity of her house, the light shining through floral curtains as me and my little brother were sitting on the carpet floors while the adults had their laughs. I was very little then, and now I'm 19 and attending Christian Brothers University. I was out at the Southern Literary Festival when I got the news. I wish I could've shown Granny what I wrote, and I wish I could've told her about my time in college. I'm sure she would've loved to hear about what I've done, what I've written, and what I want to accomplish. In her name, I'll continue to pursue my Creative Writing and Psychology degrees while doing my best to share my knowledge, and hope she'll be proud of the legacy she left behind for us. Granny will forever be one of many people in my family who remind me of the value of education, learning, and kindness. May she rest in peace, and may the world remember her as one of the kindest souls who ever lived.

I had Mrs. Riedel as my English teacher back in 5th or 6th grade at Nixon Elementary school in Westchester Illinois. This had to be in 1960 or 1961. Mrs. Riedel was an excellent teacher with high personal and professional standards. And, she expected the same from us. Unfortunately I was not a strong student so I was very glad that Mrs. Riedel was also full of mercy and grace. Then, after receiving my bachelor's degree I was hired by Addison Trail HS to teach art. Mrs. Riedel was now teaching at our sister school, Willowbrook HS. I was able to keep in touch and say 'hello' to Mrs. Riedel at district faculty meetings. Willowbrook HS students were blessed to have Mrs. Riedel as their English teacher, as was I. All the best to the Riedel family. Mrs. Riedel was a special person and teacher. She made the world a better place every day.

I got to know Virginia when I was a member at Grace-LaGrange. She and I worked on the Prayer List ministry when Pastor Gerow was there. Virginia and my husband shared a birth date. My condolences on your loss of this beautiful soul. May she rest peacefully with all the angels in hHeaven.
