Condolences
My sincere condolences to Dorothy and her family, especially Tom, whom I have known for decades. I have warm memories of Vic in Illinois, here in California, and even on vacation in Las Vegas.

My grandparents, Harold and Mattie, were best friend with Victor's parents, Ina and Ivar....we would spend the whole summer at the Dunes at "Duck Inn" cottage on the beach near Chesterton. That was the best place in the world. My mom just passed away and I found many photos of those four having the time of their life. You too Victor enjoyed a full life and had a wonderful family. My condolences to you all. Sharon

As a close friend and frequent guest in the home of john carlberg and Sheila Turek, I heard many loving stories concerning their families and, as a baseball lover, pored over the wonderful baseball book and vicariously enjoyed johns parents. A man who evinced such love and admiration must have been a wonderful man indeed. My deepest condolences.

Dear Dotty and Carlberg Kids, Memories of Victor… I first realized that Vic had become part of our family when cases of Cambell soups began to appear in our basement. My brother and I agreed that his contribution otherwise bland diet was a welcome addition. When we had our family parties Vic and Dotty were always there and though Dotty could always be heard, everyone commented that that tall Swede didn’t talk much. It took Jeanne’s insight to clarify this situation when she commented, “around the Koukol’s” there are few that can get a word in edgewise”. As to the parties, I can still remember my mom always saying that we should “invite Dotty and Vic, but tell them to leave all those kids (I think the term was “Spawn”) home. I remember scuba diving with Vic and this big kid under the ice in Lake Geneva. The Kid (I won’t mention his name to save him the embarrassment) couldn’t get dive boots big enough to fit his supersized feet and so for the ½ hour under the ice he swam with bare feet in ice water. I was impressed with the Swedish stock that Vic had produced - though I am surprise the kid can still walk. Vic’s taste for martinis was what really cemented his relationship into our family. I knew that when ever we came to visit his bar was always open. Always a man of smiles and a joy to all who knew him.. With these memories as preamble, we wish to express our sincere condolences at Vic’s passing. As Christians we know our loved ones are in a better place, but we can't comprehend the nature of that place or our relationship with them now. Does God let them know how things are going here? Are they watching in some unknown dimension? All the theological and psychological thoughts on this are guesses and probably hogwash, but we know that whatever God's plan and purpose, it's as it should be. The tears we shed are for we who remain in this world, not the one who has returned home. It takes time for the hurt of death to heal and for us to accept that we too are fellow travelers on the way to this other place. We pray that you are soon to reach this perspective so as to ease the pain of this temporary parting. We cry at a loved one’s passage only because we can not hear the joy and laughter from the other side of the grave. May God’s grace wash over all of you in this difficult time. Love in Christ, Brian and Jeanne Koukol

Vic Carlberg to me in our brief acquaintance impressed me with his low-key unassuming attitude. He had a gift for making one feel important. He was alert, actively engaged and he listened to you. My sincere condolences go out to Dorothy. My prayers go out to you. Ed
