Condolences
hello!! Im Kayla Finedore, one of Mr. Walsen’s students. I was in his 7th grade class. I moved here around october 2020. He made me feel so welcome, i always looked forward to going to his class. I was going through some stuff at home and he was like a 2nd dad to me. When i heard of his passing i was devastated. I couldn’t even imagine how his family felt. He treated us like family. He had bought stuff for us for Christmas to brighten our moods a bit more, he had even bought a pride flag for the lgbtqia+ students in our classes. He was a huge Harry Potter fan and loved to talk about it, i loved listening to him go on and on about the things he knows about Harry Potter. As a fellow Ravenclaw, i’m proud to say i got to share the same house as the one and only Mr. Walsen. He had always treated us so kindly. I miss our fun fridays and beverage bucks. I still have them all. I also still have my Ratify sign, not sure why i loved it so much but the word Ratify just sounds amazing to me. He got me through 7th grade now i have to get myself through 8th. I think about him a lot, he was such a cool teacher, i mean spending your money on a bunch of teenagers? I know i wouldn’t have done that lol. Mr. Walsen was the best Social studies teacher EVER. Sending my prayers to him and his family, rest easy Mr. W.

I am so sorry for the sudden loss of Pat. He was a well liked and respected member of our school family. Pat always had a friendly greeting when I saw him and a great rapport with his students. He will be dearly missed by all of us at Saunemin Elementary.

I am so sorry for the loss of Pat. He was such a wonderful person and teacher. I loved our conversations during our time as study hall supervision, and the fun times we all had together at school. Saunemin will not be the same. He was loved by his School Family, and of course the students.

So sorry for your loss. He was loved by the students he met at Saunemin. He had a passion for teaching. It was a shock to us all. I met him a few times at school. I'm so glad he came to our little town to teach. Even in that short time he did so much. Plus a time of Covid which made things harder. He will be missed by the teachers, the students, the Administration and the school board which I am on. Thank you for sharing this special man with our children. He will not be forgotten by Saunemin Grade School.

I am so sorry for your loss of Pat. I taught with Pat and we became fast friends! I loved leaving his favorite treats on his desk each week. He would call me his school mom and he would make me laugh! I loved watching him become so attached to his students as he called them “his kids”. As this school year ended, I sent him a text telling him how lucky Saunemin was to have him and told him he was an awesome teacher! Thank you for sharing Pat with us! We were blessed to know him! God bless you all!
