Obituary
Violet (Novacek) Ratkovich, 97 of Brookfield passed away peacefully December 2, 2022 surrounded by her family.
She was born May 13, 1925 at St Anthony’s Hospital in Chicago to Emil and Emily (Svornik) Novacek. Both her parents were born in Czechoslovakia and taught Violet to speak Czech and honor her heritage all her life.
Violet went to Eli Whitney Elementary School and graduated from Farragut High School in 1943. She met her husband Peter, also a graduate of Farragut in the neighborhood and were married after Peter returned from WWII on June 8, 1946. It was a wonderful marriage that lasted 67 years. They had one daughter, Pamela. After high school Violet worked at Western Electric in the office, married and moved to Brookfield where she lived for 75 years.
Violet loved and enjoyed music, playing the piano, concertina and singing with the Mother Singers. She worked as a hostess, joined the P.T.A., band parents, was a scout leader and joined Golden Agers later in life. She and Peter enjoyed the Moose Lodge, VFW, dancing, playing cards, bowling and being members of the Young at Heart club. They loved to travel with family and friends.
Violet is survived by her daughter Pamela (Ratkovich) Cherry (Robert), two grandchildren Allison (Cherry) Cook (Justin), Brent Cherry (Lisa), four great-grandchildren, Dawson Cherry, Madison Cherry, Kennedy Cherry and Mason Cook. She was preceded in death by her husband Peter and parents Emil and Emily Novacek. Her love and kindness will be missed but never forgotten!
Visitation Sunday, December 11, 2022 from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. and Monday, December 12, 2022 from 11 A.M. to time of Service 11:30 A.M. at Hitzeman Funeral Home, Ltd., 9445 W. 31st Street, Brookfield, IL.
Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Forest Park.
