Robert A. Soucek

Just read about Coach Soucek passing. He was my football coach my Jr. and Sr. year at Morton West and possibly my favorite since he coached RB's. A quiet coach not a lot of yell'n and scream'n, but one day we were not going all out on sprints and he said and I quote to this day "GET ON THE GOAL LINE YOU HAMBURGERS" and he ran our butts off! LOL As a youth and asst HS coach in Naperville I used that phrase quite often. RIP Coach

On behalf of the Berwyn Public Library, we offer our deepest sympathies to the family of Bob Soucek. He was one of our favorite patrons for a very long time. He always had a funny story to tell us and had many, many friends here. We will miss him. Rest in peace Bob (that's with one O). (That was one of his favorite jokes!)

Uncle Bob helped me numerous times in high school and college.Like many of my colleagues at The College of DuPage; many of us were seeking truth and a certain path.People in 1971 were telling me of what had happened to them; changed in an instant. Like Saul of Tarsus, struck down and blinded by the light for 3 days as he was converted. My conversion crushed me like a deaf-mute person. Tony Soucek called his older brother Bob. He never judged me. I think he knew I was afraid and in shock. No one in the Soucek Family knew what had happened; Uncle Bob never judged me. And for the past 40 some years he and I have been praying for the same things: Peace in the Soucek Family. Uncle Bob was a great judge of character: he will always be remembered by me as a "man of great faith". He knew life was more than money and material things; it is building relationships and caring for people as being so guided by The One in charge. I know I had a bad , misguided reaction to being called to serve. At one time in 1971 I went to seek to be admitted to Wheaton College where Billy Graham graduated from.I was overwhelmed by the responsibility of making that decision ; so I chose a different path and went out west to Moscow, Idaho to go to school. Uncle Bob had a sabbatical in Pullman, Washington just a few miles down the road from Moscow years earlier; he gave me support and always told me how friendly the people were in the northwest, out in The Inland Empire as it is called. Uncle Bob, I will miss you dearly; it's too bad not every one seeks after , The Way, The Truth and The Life. But I know you are in a good place right now and I will always remember you as a man of integrity and truth. Sincerely, William Soucek your loving nephew.

Robert A. Soucek is my second "Dad". I had the good fortune to attend college in with his son, Bob, and live in the same dorm. We quickly became friends and he learned that my parents had moved to Europe for business reasons. He informed his parents of my situation and that I was looking for a place to stay during summer break. Bob's parents did not know me but they invited me without hesitation to live with them for the summer. They welcomed me with open arms into their home and hearts and I immediately became a member of the Soucek family. It was an exceptional experience and a fun summer that I will never forget. I am proud to say that Bob Soucek is my best friend and has been since college. His Mom passed away way too soon and now his Dad has joined her. My wife and I had the good fortune to see "Dad" last August and spend some precious time with him. God Bless You, "Dad", and thank you for your kindness and love and for giving me my best friend!! I offer you, the family my deepest sympathy on Bob`s passing! He was my P.E. coach in both Grammar & high school from 1946 through 1952. I always liked his deep voice commands, but knew he was really a "Kitty cat" in his heart! I pray our precious Lord will comfort & strengthen you all during this most difficult time in your lives! We all lost one of the funniest characters. Our last family 'outlaw' . A tremendous golfer and story teller. You will be missed Uncle Bob Love ya, Barb and Mary
