Lucille Chappell

Lucille Chappell12

Lucille Chappell lived a long and interesting life, ending her days in La Grange, IL, where she had settled with her husband, Samuel, following their marriage in 1956. She was born November 26th, 1916, near Newton, MA, raised by her aunt and uncle, and graduated from Lasell College for Women. A cyto-technician in the Vincent Laboratory of Boston’s Mass General, she was transferred for a year to the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. She had been invited to share pap smear testing research for the prevention of cervical cancer and while there, attended the 1953 Nobel Prize ceremony for Medicine. She was passionate about life and work – whether she was hosting a dinner party, dancing the jitterbug, performing cytology, or caring for an ailing friend or loved one, she always brought a level of energy and conviction that was all her own. She was a devoted wife to her husband of 24 years, caring for him until his death from colon cancer in 1980. She traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe up until the age of 85. She is remembered most for her spontaneity, curiosity and profound loyalty-her loving friendship will be greatly missed. In her loving memory; Arrangements by Hitzeman Funeral Home, Ltd., 9445 W. 31st Street, Brookfield. Information 708-485-2000 or www.HitzemanFuneral.com
