Obituary

Ingrid Winther, nee Salvesen, passed peacefully at home surrounded by her husband and three daughters on July 5, 2006. Ingrid was a survivor, who courageously battled cancer for over 16 years. She was born in July 1930 at the lighthouse her father operated in Langesund, Norway. She was the sixth of seven children and is survived by her brother and sister, Ivar and Aslaug. She trained in Denmark as a Physical Therapist and emigrated to Hinsdale, IL, in 1956 to work at the Hinsdale Sanitarium. She married Thorkil Winther December 5, 1959, a Dane who had also emigrated. Together they pioneered a private Physical Therapy practice that they operated for over 45 years, until early 2006 in Countryside, IL. Ingrid was a devoted mother to three daughters (Tina, Sonja, Linda), who are grateful to her for fostering an appreciation of their Norwegian-Danish heritage through yearly trips to Scandinavia, family traditions and close friendships within the Norwegian/Danish community of Chicago. Ingrid cherished her three grandchildren (Sebastian, Anna Sophia, Espen) who carry on her Love of Life. Ingrid was passionate about helping those with physical impairments and is loved by so many who have been touched and healed by her strong, loving hands. A memorial service will be held July 24th, 2 pm, at THE DANISH HOME, 5656 N. Newcastle Ave, Chicago, IL 60631. (tel 773.775.7383). In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to The Danish Home, who so kindly provide their facility in Ingrid's honor. Arrangements by Hitzeman Funeral Home, Ltd., Brookfield.
