Obituary
Carl George Alvin Petzold (96) of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, in Reading Hospital on Wednesday, April 6, 2022.
Carl was born in Lemont, Illinois to George and Gertrude Petzold. He grew up in Bedford Park, Illinois with his sisters Alice and Ruth. He loved baseball, hockey, hunting, fishing, gardening and traveling. He graduated from Argo Community High School, served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII, and received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Marquette University. He enjoyed a long and successful career in the lead smelting business, retiring from Exide Corp. in 2001.
In his late twenties, he met the love of his life, Donna Petzold, at a roller rink, and never looked back. They married on Valentine’s Day in 1953. Soon they started a family, complete with a daughter, Linda Petzold and a son, Bradley Carl Petzold. He was a kind, dependable and engaged father, and inspired both of his children to pursue careers in engineering and to never give up on their dreams.
In addition to his wife, Donna Petzold, and children Linda Petzold (John Emerick) and Bradley Petzold (Darcy Petzold), Carl is survived by his grandchildren, Matthew Emerick, Andrea Daley, Bryan Petzold and Conner Petzold, and great grandchildren Declan Daley, Brigid Daley, Saoirse Daley, and Chance Petzold.
Due to guests traveling from out of state, the family has requested everyone that attends to wear a mask. Thank you.
Visitation Thursday, April 14, 2022 10:00 A.M. to Time of Service 11:00 A.M. at Hitzeman Funeral Home, Ltd., 9445 West 31st Street, Brookfield, IL 60513.
Interment Chapel Hills Gardens West, Oak Brook Terrace.
