Bill was a such a force, he would come into a room, with a smile and hello for everyone. Loved to hear his stories about his adventures.

He will be missed.

Bill was a BIG man, with a BIG heart. He was a great friend and a member of many community and religious organizations. He had a life full of fascinating moments that touched so many people. I’m glad to have gotten to know him some, he enriched everyone’s life.

Bill was my neighbor growing up on Elgin and one of the men I looked up to. He was a fascinating complex and intelligent man. He knew the metric to standard conversions by heart. As a teenager, Bill unloaded 100 lb bags of sugar from rail cars at the Brach’s candy factory. He was skilled gunsmith. He loved his dogs! He helped build the enclosures at Brookfield zoo and, as a younger man, would quit his job for a few months every year for extended trips (they usually hired him back). He was kind to me and indeed could be Sharp at times. We once got a ticket from the forest service police for shooting on one of their ranges without permission. Good memories. I will miss him.
