Sarah Elizabeth Harris Lee died peacefully and comfortably in her sleep early on the morning of Friday, Oct. 25, 2019, in La Grange Park. She was 86 years old.
By being herself, she taught us love.
Sally was born in Collinsville, Ill., Dec. 6, 1932, where she grew up before heading to DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind. Upon graduation, she moved to Chicago where she worked at the Northern Trust Bank and met Don Lee, whom she married Nov. 17, 1962. They were married until Don died in 2017. She lived in La Grange Park for 56 years.
Sally is survived by a son, Tom (Rena) Lee, a daughter, Margaret (Doug) Hedberg, a granddaughter, Katie Lee, and many dear friends.
She played bridge with the same group of women for more than 50 years. She was a member of a sewing group for decades. She knitted, attended various classes, read, and threw great parties.
She camped, she canoed, she traveled. She was curious, easy-going and fun.
She made the best of everything, looked on the bright side, lived in the present moment and genuinely enjoyed life.
To be loved by Sally was to be loved warmly and happily and to know you were just fine the way you are.
We miss her terribly, but know we are extraordinarily lucky to have had her in our lives.
Visitation for Sally will be held Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019, at from 10 A.M. to time of Memorial Service at 11 a.m. at Hitzeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 9445 West 31st Street, Brookfield, IL 60513. Wear your crazy socks. Interment Private
