Rudolph E. "Rudy" Hornacek, age 79, of La Grange, fond father of Thomas (Mary) Hornacek and Marcus Hornacek; dear grandfather of Christopher Thomas Hornacek and Caitlin Rose Hornacek; brother of the late Rose (the late James) Vedral; "Uncle" to many nieces and nephews. Visitation Friday November 10, 2006 from 3 P.M. to 9 P.M. and Saturday, November 11, 2006 from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at Hitzeman Funeral Home Ltd. 9445 W. 31st Street, Brookfield. Funeral Saturday 11 A.M. Interment Private; Rudy is a well-known man for his leadership at Telephone and Data Systems, a national telecommunications provider and for owning and managing farms in Iowa. Rudy graduated from University of Illinois, Champaign in 1948 with a B.S. in Mathematics. For the next 10 years he found himself with Illinois Bell. In 1958 he began working for Telephone and Data Systems as Vice President of Engineering; He was also the first President of U.S. Cellular. He worked at Telephone and Data Systems until his retirement in August 2006; In addition he continued to manage his 9 farms. Memorials appreciated to American Cancer Society.
