Harry A. Poffenbarger, III, age 89, of River Forest. Dear son of the late Harry Poffenbarger, II and Agnes Poffenbarger, nee Murphy; brother of Peggy (the late Joseph) Neumann and the late James (Judith) Poffenbarger; cherished friend of Noreen Kobas; uncle, nephew and cousin of many.

Harry was born in Omaha, Nebraska and spent most of his life in Chicago, IL. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army before beginning a long career with the Federal Aviation Department. While his work took him down paths he rarely spoke about, those who knew him best remember a gentle faithful man whose greatest passions were much simpler. Harry was an avid lover of classical music and found great joy attending performances by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Whether sharing a meal with family, enjoying Japanese cuisine or listening to music he loved, Harry lived a life defined not by recognition but by quiet devotion to his faith and the people that mattered most. Though he had no children of his own, he was a beloved cousin and cherished member of the extended Donald J. McDowell family who could not imagine holidays, celebrations and family gatherings without him.
