Emil Mendel

Emil Mendel, age 87, of Brookfield. Korea Marine Corp Veteran. Died Friday, August 11. Beloved husband of Mildred "Millie" Mendel, nee Hustava; devoted father of Steven Mendel and Lisa (Jim) Sherwood, proud "papa" of Catherine, Kevin and Ellen; cousin to Mitzie (the late John) Oleksy of Long Grove, IL; uncle to many nieces, nephews and friends in Slovakia. Emil enjoyed bowling, fishing and golf, especially his fishing trips to Canada. He was proud of his vegetable garden and flowers. He was a member of the United Carpenters Union, Local 54 for over 50 years, having worked for 35 years at the Chicago Housing Authority. Member of the Slovak Athletic Association, Dobrovsky Club, and Westchester Masonic Lodge 995. Visitation Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 3 P.M. to 8 P.M. and Monday, August 14, 2017 from 9 A.M. to 9:30 A.M. at Hitzeman Funeral Home, Ltd. 9445 W. 31st Street, Brookfield.
