Dorothy “Yiayia” Siambekos (née Dimoff) of La Grange Park, Illinois, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, at 85 years old.
She was born and raised in Chicago by her Macedonian immigrant parents, Spase and Marija Dimoff (née Czetkovich). Dorothy often shared fond memories of her childhood, where she grew her strong work ethic, cooking skills, and love for family, Macedonian traditions, and music.
After graduating from Lucy Flower High School, she worked at the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago. Dorothy traveled with her closest friends to Macedonian dances in the city and as far away as Toronto. It was at a dance in Chicago that she met her husband of 60 years, Ted.
The deepest mark Dorothy left was through the love she poured into her four children. As a mom, she made sure her children were nourished, nurtured, and never late to the many activities they enjoyed. She was her children’s biggest cheerleader and coach. You could often find her in the bleachers beaming with pride and sporting her winning smile.
One of Dorothy’s greatest joys was being a Yiayia to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very involved in their lives, attending games, graduations, marathons, and weddings—and never missed a birthday or anniversary. Through her countless crocheted blankets and elaborate character-themed hats, she knew her grandchildren and great-grandchildren would always be wrapped in her love.
Dorothy was an extraordinary mother, Yiayia, great-Yiayia, and wife. Her love for her family, friends, and community had no bounds. She will be remembered most for her sense of humor, honesty, and unwavering dedication to the people she loved.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Spase and Marija Dimoff, and her brothers, Robert and John (Janet) Dimoff. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Ted; her children, Christ (Stacey) Siambekos, Sophia Siambekos, Maria Siambekos, and Steve (Laura) Siambekos; her grandchildren, Rebecca (James) Sippel, Madeline (Kevin) Doherty, Meredith Siambekos, Nicholas Siambekos, Alexandra Siambekos, Benjamin Siambekos, Timotheos Siambekos, and Theodoros Siambekos; great-grandchildren, Owen Sippel, Parker Sippel, and Eleanor Doherty; her brother William Dimoff; and many nieces and nephews.
