Doris (Dottie) Hope Ander, (Corden), age 94 of Elmhurst died at home under hospice care on December 18, 2014. She was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island to Emily Longbottom and Frederick Corden. Dottie served in the United States Marines during World War II, where she met her future husband, Navy Petty Officer Lloyd Ander. They married in 1944 in Norman, Oklahoma. After the war, they moved to the Chicago area and bought a home in Stickney, Illinois, where they lived until their recent move to a senior residential facility in Elmhurst, Illinois.
They raised four sons: Michael (Linda) of Sleepy Hollow, Illinois; Paul (Arlis) of Naples, Florida; Gary (Libby) of Durham, North Carolina and Kris (Mary) of Westchester, Illinois. In addition to her husband and children, also surviving are her brother Artie, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Dottie was preceded in death by her brother Fred and sisters Marguerite and Louise.
Dottie was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Berwyn for more than 60 years and had many friends in the church and local community. She volunteered at Brookfield Zoo for over 30 years and delivered Meals on Wheels for 25 years.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 21, 2014, from 3 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Hitzeman Funeral Home Ltd., 9445 West 31st Street Brookfield, IL 60513. Lying in state Monday, December 22, 2014, from 10 A.M. to Time of Service 10:30 A.M. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 130 W. Butterfield Road, Elmhurst. Interment Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.
