Christine Marie Janiak (née Kuras), lovingly known as "Kissy Grandma," passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, in McHenry, Illinois, at the age of 83. Born on October 28, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, Christine lived a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to her family and faith.
Christine was the cherished daughter of Michael and Pauline Kuras, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her beloved children: her son Kevin (Nikki) Janiak and her daughter Susan (Steve) Silhavy. She was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren: Alex (Kyle) Collman, Courtney (Alex) Silcott, Kali (Zachary) Kaminski, Emma Janiak, and Daniel Silhavy. Her legacy continues through her two great-grandchildren, Owen and Vivian Collman, with another great-grandson expected soon. Christine's family was the center of her world; she loved them deeply and found immense joy in their company.
Christine's life was marked by her unwavering faith and dedication to her church community. It is fitting that she passed during Holy Week-a time of reflection and renewal-given her deep religious convictions. She found solace and strength in Bible study and shared her faith with those around her.
Known for her warm heart and vibrant personality, Christine had a knack for bringing joy to others. Whether it was through cooking delicious meals for loved ones or sharing a laugh with friends and neighbors, she had an innate ability to make people feel special. Her sense of humor was infectious; she often went out of her way to bring smiles to those around her. She'd do almost anything for a laugh.
Christine had a passion for thrift shopping and could always find treasures in unexpected places. She delighted in the simple joys of life-spending time with family, doting on her pets, and creating lasting memories with those she held dear. Her adventurous spirit extended to being a "partner in crime" with the neighborhood moms during her children's upbringing-a testament to the close bonds she formed throughout her life.
Her grandchildren affectionately called her "Kissy Grandma," a nickname that perfectly captured the warmth and affection she showered upon everyone she met. She embraced this role wholeheartedly, leaving behind countless cherished memories for those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Christine's passing leaves a void that cannot be filled but also a legacy of love, laughter, and faith that will continue to inspire all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who mourn her loss.
