Albert Richard Gimesky

Obituary

Albert R. Gimesky, age 88, of LaGrange, Illinois, formerly of Rochester, Michigan. Beloved husband of Barbara Gimesky, nee Mangan; loving father of Jill Gimesky; devoted grandfather of Laura.

Born in Washington, D.C., Al proudly served in the Army. He served in Manheim, Germany as a member of the Military Police. Upon returning, he returned to college at the University of Maryland, as well as working for the FBI. Upon graduation, he began his 35-year career with the Ford Motor Company, with assignments in Ohio; Dearborn, Michigan; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and London. He would probably ask us to put in a “buy American, preferably Ford” plug if he could.

Al was devoted to his family and to friends he considered family. Married to the love of his life for over 60 years, he and Barbara enjoyed travel, spending winters in Florida and California, and time with friends. One of the best parts of his retirement was taking on the role of Papa; he adored his granddaughter, and the feeling was mutual.

A lifelong sports fan, he played baseball in college and enjoyed nearly every sport he ever played in or watched. In particular, he was a loyal Washington Commanders fan, sometimes joking (?) that he only rooted for the Commanders… or any team that was playing the Dallas Cowboys. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing well into his retirement, particularly with many of his long-time golf buddies.

He will be deeply missed, but will live on in the memories of the many people who loved him.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 12 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, LaGrange, IL.
