Miriam Ann “Mimi” Kost, nee Yanik (87) was born in Latrobe, PA (Arnold Palmer’s home town) on January 15, 1930, the eldest of 2 daughters born to Stanley Albert Yanik and Miriam Weiss Yanik, nee Young. After moving to Chicago at an early age Miriam enrolled in the Chicago Public School System and graduated from Lindblom Technical High School on the Southwest Side and immediately began a career in the banking industry, retiring from BMO Harris Bank of Hinsdale on December 31, 1994. Anyone who knew Miriam knows of her love for flowers and the joy she received working in her garden in the backyard, which often received compliments from people walking past, and who often remarked that they looked forward to their walk past her garden. After retiring from BMO Hinsdale Bank, Miriam went to work on a part-time basis at the Stems & Twigs Flower Shop in Western Springs doing what she loved – selling flowers and making her beautiful arrangements. She certainly had an eye for beauty! In 1947 Miriam met and became the best friend and companion of John Nicholas Kost. After a whirlwind romance of 15 years they were finally married at St. Rita of Cascia Church on 63rd Street on January 13, 1962. Although they were never blessed with children, they were blessed with the love and companionship of 5 beautiful canines: Duffy, Fritzi, Mr. Tucker, Callie and Carly and then 7 beautiful felines: Sylvester, Simba, Rosie, Sheba, Fender, Bambi Munchkin and Winston, who is still with them. Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, father and mother-in-law, and brothers-in-law Robert and James Kost and niece Kathy Kost and nephew Kenneth Robert Kost. She is survived by her loving and adoring sister, Rosina “Teena” Elizabeth Rimmele and her husband Edmund (Bud) and her brother-in-law Richard William Kost and sister-in-law Elaine Kost. Loving and most generous aunt to Robert (Erin and their daughters Emma and Rachel), Michael (Debbie and their daughter Claire and son Benjamin) and John (Alex and their sons Daniel, Michael and Matthew) Rimmele, Karen (Gary) Goodheart, Linda Warren (Fran and their daughters Josie Lisa Marie and Kacie Makala), Lisa Kost and Judy Murphy. Visitation Thursday, November 9, 2017 from 3 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Hitzeman Funeral Home, Ltd., 9445 West 31st Street, Brookfield, IL 60513. Lying in State Friday, November 10, 2017 from 10 A.M. to time of Service 11 A.M. at St John’s Lutheran Church, 47th Street and S. Brainard Avenue, La Grange. Interment Bronswood Cemetery.
