Condolences for the family of “Lillian “Martini” Martinelli”

Condolence from Bill Cesaroni on September 21st, 2013 10:31 am

Lillian Martinelli was my mother’s oldest and best friend for most of her adult life. She met Lillian walking to work one day in Chicago, after recently imagrating from Italy in 1940. Lillian’s bilingual skill was greatly appreciated by my mom, who didn’t speak English at the time.
Lillian was one of the hardest working and unselfish people I have ever known. She provided a home for her mother until the day Ottavina passed away in 1971. Lillian unselfishly slept on the couch in their one bedroom apartment for fifteen years, until she saved enough money to buy her and her mother their first and only home.
In addition to the kindness she always extended to my family, I will always remember Lillian for her incredible intellignece and sense of humor (that she never lost). Even the last year of her life, when we ocasionally spoke on the phone, Lillian sounded like she was no more than forty years old.
Although she had to stuggle with her health the last few years of her life, Lillian always said she wanted to die in her own home,….and she did.
I would like to believe that Lillian and my mother Lena Cesaroni, are in heavan at the moment, having a cup of coffee.

Condolence from Denise Armenta on October 11th, 2013 4:58 pm

We only knew eachother through Sunday mass at St. Louise, though, I had not seen her in quite some time. I would see her sitting there by herself and make it a point to move closer to her. My young son and I would hold her hand during the Our Father. Being a single mother, I wanted to make sure she knew she was not alone. I will miss my Sunday friend, she was very sweet and enjoyed watching my son grow from infant to now teenager. May you rest in peace my friend..
