Leona A. Dabkey, (nee DeRuntz), age 95, born March 30, 1922, in Chicago, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2017. Beloved wife of 61 years to the late, Earle Dabkey who she married in 1947 in Las Vegas. Cherished mother of Laurel Obert and Lee (Louise) Dabkey; proud grandmother of John (Fernie Tiflis) Dabkey, Greg (Rachael) Dabkey, Kate (Eric) Hightower and Kristie (Ryan) Powers; loving great-grandmother of Belle Dabkey; fond aunt of Sharon (Bob) Smothers, Lorraine (Bradley Smith) Gudgeon, Margaret (Tom) Banick and Allen (Debbie) Dabkey. She was a warm, comfortable lap to her cat, Coco Kitten. Up until age 92, she bowled every week. She enjoyed reading the daily newspaper and doing the crossword puzzle. She faithfully watched Jeopardy every day. Leona was an enthusiastic Bulls and White Sox fan. Leona was a world-class worrier and put the feelings and needs of others ahead of hers. She had a strong sense of fairness and right and wrong. She will be forever loved and remembered for her gentle, quiet nature and encouraging smile. In addition to her husband, Earle, Leona was preceded in death by her father, Leo DeRuntz and her mother, Elizabeth Arnold. Leona was the original recycle, reuse, repurposer. She almost always had a coupon for every purchase. In her honor clip a coupon, find a bargain and enjoy a piece of Dove Dark Chocolate. The words written above say it all about dear, sweet Leona. I will always remember her sitting in her easy chair in the living room along side your dad sitting in his easy chair. Such a wonderful couple…always smiling, laughing, and enjoying visits from family and friends.
