Joseph F. Koukl, Jr., WWII Army Veteran, age 91, of North Riverside. Beloved husband of 66 years to Catherine Koukl, nee Simon. Loving father of JoAnn (Dr. Tom) Chamberlain; dear grandfather of Trevor (Hollis) Chamberlain, Joanna (Jay) Healy and Bryony Chamberlain; great grandfather of Shannan Healy, Hayley Chamberlain and Marissa Chamberlain; brother to Eleanore (the late Frank) Hainrihar, James (Kathy) Koukl and the late Clarence Koukl; uncle to many nieces and nephews. Visitation Friday, July 18, 2008 from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. and Saturday, July 19, 2008 from 8:30 A.M. to 9 A.M. at Hitzeman Funeral Home, Ltd. 9445 W. 31st Street, Brookfield. Funeral Saturday 9 A.M. to Mater Christi Church, North Riverside, Mass 9:30 A.M. Entombment Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Christ the King Mausoleum. In the years following Joe’s graduation from Farragut High School in 1936, up until WWII, he became one of the outstanding bicycle racers in the country. WWII ended Joe’s competitive racing, however his love for the sport continued. After returning from service in the Army Air Corp, he resumed riding recreationally until his mid 80’s, riding as much as 3,000 miles each year.
