My deepest sympathies to the Sandilands family. I had worked with Jim the last few years and talking to him was always the highlight of my day. We recently shared new puppy stories! No matter what was going on in his life, he was always kind and I am so glad I got to know him. Rest in peace, Jim.
We want to express our sincere condolences to the Sandilands family for their loss of a great husband and father. My fondest memory of Jim was when he managed the Rockies little league baseball team. I was privileged to be one of his coaches. His inspired leadership and knowledge of baseball that year took a group of average baseball players to a championship season. Nobody on that team will ever forget that experience. Jim loved his sports and he was loved and respected by his many LaGrange Park family and friends.
Jim and Cathy.
I have known Jim for over 50 years, growing up across the alley from his family. I would like to share with you some indelible moments in the history of our friendship.
• I returned home from the Air Force in late 1973. I shortly thereafter accepted a job offer from Motorola that included a company car. Since I no longer needed a personal car, I sold Jim my 1966 Chevy Impala. A week later early on a Saturday morning, Jim called me, screaming at me for keeping a set of keys and moving his car in the middle of the night as a prank. I told him I had no idea what he was talking about. The car was later found in Evanston, stripped down to the frame. We eventually laughed about that for quite a while.
• Three consecutive nights at the Chicago Stadium when Chicago and the Beach Boys were touring together. Neither one of us could hear right for a week after that.
• Jim was the Best Man at my wedding to Marianne.
• I had the honor to be the Best Man at his wedding to Marge.
• Marianne and I met Chris and Sarah shortly after they each were born. We didn’t have the privilege of meeting Megan.
On a lighter note… As you all know, Jim was somewhat of a sports fan…we shared many passions
• We had a year of Bulls season tickets, in the days of Jerry Sloan and Norm Van Leer. Jim knew I didn’t care much for basketball, but somehow he talked me into it.
• We were together at the Ryne Sandberg game against the Cardinals on June 23, 1984. Sandberg hit two home runs off of Bruce Sutter, twice tying the score. The Cubs eventually won in the 11th.
• We were together at Soldiers Field when the bears beat the New York Giants 21 – 0 on the way to the NFC championship game.
• On January 12, 1986, we were together again as the Bears beat the LA Rams 24 – 0, a prelude to their demolishing of the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. This was the game when Wilbur Marshall returned a fumble 56 yards for a touchdown, as the snow started to fall.
• We were at the Bears – Eagles playoff game in 1988, the game that became known as the Fog Bowl. From our seats, about all we could see was the north end zone. Unfortunately, all the action was at the south end.
• For three years, we watched the Blackhawks bring joy and happiness wherever they went, mainly since they spent most of their time losing. But we did have the privilege of seeing Bobby Orr skate for the Blackhawks at the old Chicago Stadium.
Jim, Marianne and I will miss you. You will always be our friend. We had so many moments together. These happy memories will remain long after the sadness of your passing abates. Our condolences to Marge and your kids, to David and Erica, and the legions of your many friends. May your spirit continue to support those you loved, and those who loved you.

Megan and Sarah Sandilands:
You probably don’t remember me but I heard about your dad’s loss from Amanda Bahler. You know he is in your hearts forever. It’s hard losing your father and you can’t let go from it and I know that you will always be loved no matter what God sends you.
Many of us here had the pleasure of speaking with Jim over the past decade. He always had kind words and an upbeat attitude. Our condolences to his family and friends RIP Jim.
