Evelyn Schmidt, nee Schmidt, age 85, life time Brookfield resident. Graduate of Gross School and Riverside – Brookfield High School Class of 1948. Beloved mother of Carol (James Woznicki) Mackowiak, nee Schindalga; fond sister of the late Dorothy Kristmann; aunt of Mary Kristmann and Kurt (Deborah) Kristmann. Visitation Thursday, March 31, 2016, 3 P.M. to Time of Service 8 P.M. at Hitzeman Funeral Home Ltd. 9445 West 31st Street, Brookfield, IL 60513. Interment Private. Brookfield Library volunteer for over 20 years, member of the Zoo and Zoo parent for many years, Hand knitted many blankets for Project Linus. Condolences for the family of “Evelyn Schmidt, nee Schmidt”
Evelyn will hold up the standard for a good neighbor the rest of my life. For about my first 6 years of life living in Brookfield, she served as one of my first stops for trick or treating, the limit of riding my 3 wheel bike to her driveway, and up it and back, and a friendly face working in her back yard, always with a wave. When we moved to La Grange Park, she invited me over to bake near christmas time, always bought girl scout cookies and always was cheering for the same team as me, THE CUBS. Such a wonderful woman and neighbor, she shall be missed dearly.

Evelyn will be remembered for her dedication to her daughter, her home, and her community. When I think of Evelyn, I recall her as friendly, tenacious, loyal, and caring. I enjoyed our friendship and the time we spent together.
