Dot was born in Cummington, MA to the late Ernest and Viola (Morrill) Carver. After finishing school, Dot worked for many years at the Farmer’s Exchange until she was married.  She accompanied and assisted her late husband, Bill, through college and a number of Social Work positions in Springfield, MA, Los Angeles, CA, Johnston and Bettendorf, IA, Sherman, IL, and Memphis, TN, where she worked for 20 years as a typist for Dr. Howard L. Beale, an ophthalmic plastic surgeon. After her retirement, Dot moved to the Chicago area to be closer to her sons and their families. Dot was an active participant in the Lutheran church throughout her married life, volunteering and serving at every church she attended, most recently at St Luke’s Lutheran Church in Memphis, TN, and Saints Peter and Paul Lutheran Church in Riverside, IL, where she volunteered in the B.E.D.S. Program and sang in the choir. Dot liked to spend her time gardening, reading, watching her favorite shows, and doing crosswords. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, taking them to libraries, teaching them how to play marbles, and doing countless puzzles with them – often having them share jokes with her even through her last weeks. Dot’s quick wit and bright personality will be missed.

Service and private interment in Cummington, MA will be held in June.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to: Saints Peter and Paul Lutheran Church 250 Woodside Road, Riverside, IL 60546.

Messages of Condolence

  1. Mona Beale condolence:

Leo and I treasured our relationship with Dot and Bill during our time with them in Memphis. She was such a valued employee, but we loved her like family. Over the years we had lost track of her. Leo was touched that he was mentioned in her obituary and we so wished that we missed knowing of her passing. We will always remember our years with her fondly. Tom and Ernie, we loved your mom dearly!
