She attended Byford elementary school and graduated from Austin High School. After High School, Dorothy completed a professional secretarial training program while working for the Continental Bank in Chicago. She was a life-long Episcopalian, and a long-time member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Austin, where she met and later married her husband, Bill. Following their marriage in 1944, Dorothy and Bill moved several times for Bill’s Navy assignments, eventually returning to Austin, with Dorothy becoming an executive secretary at Continental Bank. They ultimately settled in Oak Park, where they lived in the same house for 44 years, and raised their three children Bill, Janet, and Susan. In recent years, Dorothy and Bill joined Christ Episcopal Church in River Forest, and relocated to Western Springs.  Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was a wonderful homemaker, hostess and volunteer, always welcoming and freely sharing her home and talents to serve and assist others. Over the years, Dorothy engineered innumerable family gatherings where no crowd was too large and no-one left hungry. Dorothy served as the assistant secretary at Emerson School in Oak Park, and also volunteered her secretarial services at several organizations including St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, Christian Action Ministry, and Christian Community Services. In addition to her secretarial work, Dorothy served the church in many other capacities including altar guild, Sunday school teacher, service guild, vestry, and search committee. She volunteered for a variety of duties at Emerson School including managing the school picture program. In 2004, she was honored for her 10 plus years of volunteer service at the Oak Park River Forest High School library.  Dorothy is survived by her husband William; son William (Gail) of Western Springs, and their children Laura and Allison; daughter Janet (Richard) Simon of Bristol, WI, and their children Josef, Katherine, and Daniel; daughter Susan (William) Greenlee of Western Springs, and their children Sarah and William; and her sister Loraine (the late Alfred) Raschke of Whitehall, MI.  Visitation Monday, June 8, 2009, 3 P.M. to 9 P.M at Hitzeman Funeral Home Ltd., 9445 West 31st Street, Brookfield.
