Composed by Aunt Kristina Sherwood:

I am deeply saddened to inform you that, my nephew and God son, Christopher Joseph Doherty, transcended his life on Earth on the Autumn Equinox, September 22, 2016.  Christopher was born April 10, 1980 to Norman Gerald Doherty and my sister, Kelly (Shenkel) Radde. He was a graduate of Lyons Township High School in La Grange, IL – Class of 1998. He was 36 years young. Christopher left behind his beloved son, Christopher. He was so very proud of his son’s accomplishments in academia and sports. His son is a straight A student who played baseball and loves football. Christopher is now playing football at Riverside-Brookfield High School as a Freshman and we are very proud of him! Christopher is survived by his beloved son, Christopher Doherty, of Brookfield, IL; his Grandfather, George August Shenkel and Momma Sherry Ivey of Clearwater, FL; his Mother, Kelly (Shenkel) Radde (Rick) of La Grange Park; his brother, Ryan Michael Doherty of Rockford, Tennessee; his aunt Kristina (Shenkel) Sherwood (Jim) of Evergreen, CO; his first love, Jackie Montoya, the Mother of his only son, along with Jax’s beloved, John and his brother, Draven of Brookfield; his grandparents on the paternal side, Wanda and Doug. Christopher’s Grandmother, Eileen Petrick Shenkel, passed in 1994. His Uncle, Brian Shenkel, of Brookfield, IL, recently passed on Father’s Day – June 19, 2016. Chris will join the family in Heaven for eternal life. In loving memory of Christopher. Christopher was best known for his quest for knowledge, his intellect and deep thoughts. He was well spoken and self-educated. Christopher gave the best hugs ever, which he learned from his Grandfather, George. He also loved the bands Phish and Umphrey’s McGee. Those special memories of you will always bring a smile, If only I could have you back for just a little while, Then we could sit and talk again just like we used to do You always meant so very much and always will do too, The fact that you’re no longer here will always cause pain but you’re forever in our hearts until we meet again. A memorial will be held Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at Memorial Park in La Grange Park (La Grange Road at Woodlawn) for any one who wishes to attend, with a picnic thereafter. Please join us if only for a moment and hugs. Any one is welcome. In lieu of any cards, flowers or donations, we will be creating a GoFundMe account for his son for his college education, https://wwwgofundme.com/2sam5vpa [1]. We ask that you write a memory of Chris that we can savor and enjoy. If you have a photo that you’d like to share, please bring that. If you cannot attend the memorial, please mail any memory to: Kelly Radde, 1521 North Robinhood Lane, La Grange Park, IL 60526. PEACE OUT Christopher. You are loved by all those left behind. Thanks many memories. First time I felt him move. I was sitting in your apartment. You made me sit still for more than five min….then felt flutter.
Call or text when can. Play catch up.
Miss old days, good ones.

I grew up a few doors down from the Shenkel household. We were a tight-knit group of people on Kensington Ave. George Shenkel was always a positive force for me, encouraging me in my sports. And I was fairly close in age to Kelly and Kristina, lovely people.

Belated sympathy for the passing of Christopher Joseph Doherty, I’m certain he is missed dearly. God Bless all the Shenkels and extended family members.
