Blanche (Vanek) Blahut died peacefully on August 19, 2011, at age 95. She was born August 25, 1915 in Chicago, IL. She passed at the family home in El Segundo, CA, with her family present.
She was pre-deceased by her father Frank Vanek, mother Anna Kucinda Vanek, sister Lillian Chapek, sister Mildred Mudra, and husband of forty three years Edward Joseph Blahut.
She is survived by two sons, Edward Joseph II of El Segundo, CA, and Robert Charles of Redondo Beach, CA. Also by six grandchildren: Kristi Redenour, Jennie Newman, Andrew Blahut, Edward Joseph Blahut III, Jodi Haydon, and Cindy Houchen. Also by 10 great-grandchildren. Also by niece Debbie Pavelka and nephew Alan Hruby.
She was an energetic businesswoman with many accomplishments during her lifetime. She was a graduate of Hinsdale, IL high school, and thereafter worked in the Walker Real Estate office in Hinsdale. In 1949 and for ten years thereafter she owned and operated the “Blanche and Kay’s Finer Foods” delicatessen in Berwyn, IL. In 1957 she received SEC registration as a stock broker and worked initially at Bache & Co., and later at Walston and Co., until about 1979. She had the distinction of being the first female stockbroker in the city of Chicago,
In 1960 and for eighteen years thereafter she and her husband operated the “B&E Tooling and Machining Co.” in Glenview, IL. She was an active member of the Riverside Presbyterian Church while she lived in Illinois.
A visitation will be held at the Hitzeman Funeral Home on Thursday, September 1, 2011 between 3:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. and Friday between 10:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., funeral service on September 2, 2011 at 11:00 am. Interment will be at the Bohemian National Cemetery. Information 708-485-2000 or
