Marilyn Kresa, nee Rippel

Marilyn Rippel Kresa, 86, formerly of Western Springs, Hinsdale and Oak Brook, IL passed away on Feb. 26, 2013.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald Eichler (d. 1977), John “Jack” Stout (d. 1989), brother Bradley (Patricia) Rippel and devoted son, Grant Eichler.  She is survived by her sons Kent Eichler (the late Mary Beth) of Chicago, IL, and Douglas Eichler of Boulder, CO, daughter Dr. Mary (Joseph) Tyree of Chicago, IL and grandchildren, Lindsay Eichler, Catherine Tyree, and Lauren Tyree.  Marilyn was born on February 12, 1927 in Oak Park, IL, to Frederick and Myrtle Rippel.  She attended Oak Park – River Forest High School and enrolled at MacMurray College at the age of 16.  While there, Marilyn developed a love for equestrian competition, which she passed down to her daughter Mary, and granddaughters Catherine and Lauren.

After graduating from college, Marilyn married Donald and together they raised their family in Western Springs, IL.  Widowed, Marilyn married Jack Stout in 1980 and moved to Hinsdale, IL where she became a longtime member of both the Hinsdale Golf Club and Hinsdale Garden Club.  Marilyn’s main treasure in life was her family.  She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Marilyn was a wonderful homemaker, an avid gardener and an exceptional seamstress who loved playing golf, tennis, and bridge.  She also had a great commitment to God and was both a member and volunteer at Christ Church of Oak Brook for over 30 years.  Marilyn will be remembered for her grace, style and love of God and family.  Throughout her life, Marilyn redefined the very definitions of integrity and character.

James Robert “J.R.” Phillip, Sr.

James Robert “J.R.” Phillip, Sr., of Hinsdale and more recently Westmont, IL was born in Chicago on July 8, 1925 to James A. and Helen Phillip. Passed away peacefully on June 22, 2010 at the age of eighty-four. A navigator in the U.S. Air Force during WWII, J.R. graduated from Northwestern University with a commerce degree then joined his parents’ flower business, Phillip’s Flowers & Gifts, founded in Cicero, IL in 1923, where he remained actively involved for 61 years, serving as Chairman Emeritus up to his passing. A floral designer and local entrepreneur, J.R. was a co-founder and director of the Bank of LaGrange Park, a co-founder of the Metro Chicago Florist Delivery Coop, and a member of the American Academy of Floriculture (AAF). A man of faith and family, J.R. was also a longtime member and past elder of Christ Church of Oak Brook. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary B. Phillip, sister Lee Phillip Bell of Chicago television fame, brother and business colleague Russell Phillip; children Jim (Gwen), Don (Sandy) and Baxter (Martha) Phillip, eight grandchildren; and one great grandson, many of whom are leading the family business forward into its fourth generation. Alice Mary Klein, nee Jarvis

Alice Mary Klein, nee Jarvis, age 82, formerly of Brookfield and Hinsdale. Beloved wife of the late Morrie Klein, loving mother of Matthew (Gaylen), Robert (Jane Bechle), devoted grandmother of Micaela, Geoff, Jeremy, Jessica, Aaron and Jennifer, and great –grandmother of Kaiyan. Alice studied Civil Engineering at University of Minnesota (BS ’47, MS ’49). After graduating Alice worked as a professional engineer in Minneapolis, then at Greeley & Hansen, then Consoer Townsend in Chicago. Alice enjoyed music, gardening, walking in the woods, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was an active church member of United Methodist Church in Brookfield.

Kenneth G. Doty

Kenneth G. Doty, 88, beloved husband of Geri, loving father of Robert, Steve, Katelyn, and Elizabeth and loving grandfather of six, died September 28, 2007, at Manor Care, in Hinsdale, IL.  Ken was an 18 year resident of Hinsdale and former 32 year resident of Western Springs. 

      Ken was born in 1919 in Chicago.   He was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran who flew 25 missions as the navigator in a B29.  After the war, he received his bachelor degree from Northwestern University.  Ken was a partner in Doty and Doty, CPA in Chicago for more than 20 years and owner of Kenneth G. Doty CPA in Western Springs and Countryside for many years.  He was a member of the AICPA for 60 years and long-time member of the LaGrange Country Club.  He was very proud of having three holes-in-one (two in the same year). 

      He is survived by his wife Geri of Hinsdale; his sons Robert (Jaclyn) of IL and Stephen (Vicki) of WI, and his daughters Katelyn Doty of OR and Elizabeth (David) Johnson of AZ; his sister Eva Doris McBeath of AZ; grandchildren Sean Doty, Erin Doty, Jennifer (Jonathan) Von Stroh, David Doty, Katherine Johnson, Rebecca Johnson.

      Memorial visitation will occur from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. and a memorial service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 9, at the Evangelical Covenant Church of Hinsdale, 412 S.
