Margaret Barrett Zalatoris

Margaret Zalatoris

Margaret Barrett Zalatoris, 92, passed away February 14, 2017. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, William Joseph Zalatoris. Margaret is survived by her sons Richard (Catherine) of Plano, TX, Mark (Renee) of Glenview, IL, Paul (Caroline) of Clarendon Hills, IL; grandchildren William Zalatoris, Scott (Angeline) and Joanne Zalatoris, and Ellen and Anne Zalatoris, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Jean (the late George) Koren and the late William (the late Elizabeth) Barrett, Jr.

Margaret met her husband, Will, as a teenager on the Chain O’ Lakes 78 years ago. She spent the summers of her childhood at the Barrett family cottage on Channel Lake where many aunts, uncles, and cousins often gathered for festive weekends. Margaret graduated from University of Illinois and taught in Chicago Public Schools until the birth of her first son. She then “retired” to tackle the challenging job of raising three sons. Margaret raised her family in LaGrange Park, IL from 1957 through 1987 and, after Will’s retirement, enjoyed spending the winter months in Phoenix, AZ and the rest of the year on Lake Marie in Antioch. Margaret and Will eventually moved back full time to Lake Marie, where their love story had begun so many years before.
