American FlagJohn J. Gerberi, age 79 of Brookfield. US Navy Veteran. Beloved husband of Eleanor P. Gerberi, nee Simko; fond father of Laura (Jeff) Pogwizd, Mary Ellen (Steve) Fiflis and Amy Gerberi; dear grandfather of Erica (Josiah) Wiswell, Stephanie Pogwizd, John Fiflis, Julia Gerberi and Nicholas Fiflis; dear great grandfather of Josiah Jr., Jonas, Zoe, Noah and Theodore Wiswell; brother of Anne (Ted) Strojny, Mary (the late Bob) Silkowski, the late John Gerberi and Michael Gerberi; uncle of many nieces and nephews. Visitation Tuesday, April 19, 2016, 3 P.M. to 8 P.M. and Wednesday, April 20, 2016, 9 A.M. to 9:30 A.M. at Hitzeman Funeral Home Ltd., 9445 W. 31st St., Brookfield, IL 60513. Funeral Wednesday to St. Louise de Marillac Church. Mass 10 A.M. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery. After retiring as a Repair Technician John was the President of the Adult Volunteer Program at Hinsdale Hospital for many years and worked part-time at Tischlers Grocery Store as the “Meat Counter Guy”. John enjoyed spending time with family attending his five grandchildren’s sport events and concerts. He also loved the Chicago Blackhawks. We were so sorry to hear of John’s passing. He was such a great and caring man. We loved working with him at Hinsdale Hospital and he added such comfort and compassion to so many people.

Laura, my deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family. When we were kids, hanging out in your backyard Laura, I remember your dad always in a good mood or acting silly with us. We only met for a brief time, but John was so sweet and was a great patient! I know he will be missed by so many that loved him. Betsy called me and I am so sorry to hear the news, she loves you guys! I know you all have great memories to share about John.
