Gertrude Eleveld, nee Smith, age 88, of Carol Stream formerly of Cicero. beloved wife of the late Richard Eleveld; fond mother Judith (Scott) Sladek, Patricia (John) Kinley, and the late Wayne Eleveld; dear grandmother of Lauren Sladek; sister of Albert (Pearl) Smith and the late Jeannette Johnson; Aunt and Great Aunt of many nieces and nephews; Visitation Monday, August 22, 2005, 3 PM to 9 PM and Tuesday, August 23, 2005, 10:30 AM to 11 AM at Hitzeman Funeral Home Ltd., 9445 W. 31st Street, Brookfield. Funeral Tuesday 11 AM. Interment Forest Home Cemetery; In her younger days, Gertrude loved to sing in the church choir and sang at the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair and also performed on the early radio programs of Morris B. Sachs and Ted Mack’s Amateur Hour. In recent years she loved to spend time at her granddaughter’s volleyball games as well as spending time at her daughter and son-in-law’s home in California. Gertrude had a wonderful sense of humor and was one of those rare individuals who was loved and respected by all who met her. She liked to refer to herself as a “Stubborn Wooden Shoe” because of her Dutch heritage of which she was very proud. Shelby, Kinley, and Toby Sladek were her favorite Canine friends.
