Earle F. Dabkey

Earle F. Dabkey, age 91, Born November 12, 1917, in Chicago, passed away comfortably on August 2, 2009, in the ICU at Adventist LaGrange Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Leona A. Dabkey, nee DeRuntz, married 61 years ago in Las Vegas. Loving father of Laurel Obert and Lee (Louise) Dabkey. Proud grandfather of John Dabkey, Greg (Rachael) Dabkey, Katie Dabkey and Kristie Dabkey. Brother-in-law to Alice Dabkey, nee Ricker. Fond uncle Sharon (Bob) Smothers, Lorraine Gudgeon, Margaret (Tom) Banick and Allen (Debbie) Dabkey. He was a warm comfortable lap to CoCo kitten. Earle proudly served in World War II in the Navy and is a member of VFW Post 2378, Berwyn, IL. He was employed by Link-Belt Co. in the engineering department for 40 years and retired in 1976. Up until age 90 he bowled every week. He enjoyed fishing, but never caught “The Big One.” He enjoyed reading the daily news paper, and watched the Andy Griffith Show and The Three Stooges on television. He was a woodworker, mechanic and handyman and had the right tool and knowledge to fix anything. Earle loved his house and kept it in “tip-top” shape. He generously shared his talents and time helping his family, friends and neighbors. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends who over the years have enjoyed his stories and sense of humor. Earle was preceded in death by his father Harry Dabkey, mother Louise Dabkey, nee Chlum and brother Jerry Dabkey. Visitation Tuesday August 4, 2009, from 3 P.M. to time of Service 8 P.M. at Hitzeman Funeral Home Ltd. 9445 West 31st Street, Brookfield. Interment Private Parkholm Cemetery.
